On my trip to the Montgomery Zoo, it was very hot that day. On our search to observe animals for our Animal Analysis page, the class split into groups. In my group, I noticed that there were not many people at the zoo that day, mostly little kids and a few older couples. Observing the animals, I noticed the crisp air and the different habitats for the animals that were specifically made for them to adapt to the climate.
The Alligator exhibit was made like a dock, it was surrounded by a huge pond and a wooden fence. To my knowledge, it seemed as if the alligators could move around freely in the huge pond, but it was closed off. Alongside the alligator exhibit, there was information about how the zoo is raising money to build a bigger alligator exhibit.
What took me by surprise the most, was that the ant-eater and the fox were living together. The odd combination proved that although not every animal has to be the same just to be housed together, some animals can live together in harmony even if they are from different kingdoms.
I truly enjoyed looking at the birds. I liked observing all of the birds, whether their cages were big or small it is was very interesting to see these majestic creatures at eye level, which normally we would see them in the sky, but they were here in the zoo for us to see. The vultures are very big up close, and the eagles held a majestic and proud sense about themselves in their cages. The peacocks roamed freely at the entrance of the zoo and waddled around with other peacocks. To my surprise, the male peacocks are brightly colored, whereas the females are neutral colored.
Visiting the Montgomery Zoo was a lot of fun. I never knew that a warm Saturday would be filled with bringing out the little kid in me as I observed animals that have come over from different parts of the world. Animals make nature interesting, and they also show the animalistic characteristics that we humans share along with them. Just like animals, we like to dominate and conquer our territory.
