The Central Restaurant Experience
On September 22, 2014 I was invited to a birthday dinner at Central Restaurant located in Downtown Montgomery, AL. Of course I had never heard of this restaurant, but I did hear that it was a tad expensive. When I walked into the restaurant, I noticed the waiting area was enclosed with glass doors, there was also an elevator on the first floor. As time passed, the birthday girl and the rest of the party arrived and we walked through the glass doors and into the restaurant.
The restaurant’s atmosphere was very classy. In the middle of the restaurant was a long table that was set up near a big light fixture. The restaurant also has a very lowlight setting and a city-like feel. At our party’s table, the table was set beautifully with lit candles and the bar and grill was right behind us. Since our table had a nice view to watch the food being prepared, we also were warmed by the fire from the grill as well. Looking around the restaurant, the décor of the restaurant had an urban style, yet very homely. The menu’s price had various prices ranging at $5-50 and on the back of the menu there contained a large wine selection.
The waiters were very nice; they pour customers fresh glasses of water from a wine bottle and they are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Since this was my first time ordering here, I stuck to an appetizer and I ordered ‘Pork Jowl and Cornbread’. Skeptical about my decision, I got a second opinion from the waiters and I was assured that this dish was very tasty. Once our dinner was given to us, I had second thoughts about my food since my jowl appeared burned, once again I was reassured that this is exactly how the dish is supposed to be cooked and that it was very tasty. Taking my first bite, I was instantly in love. My dish, Pork Jowl and Cornbread was delicious. Pork Jowl, I learned, is just a fattier and thicker piece of bacon served with cornbread.
Looking at my peers’ plate, I saw that they had ordered things such as: Steak, Catfish, and Salads. All of our plates were decorated beautifully and we all received excellent service. I cannot stress the calm setting that Central Restaurant has, it was a beautiful place to have date night and even a casual dinner with friends and family. The food is very nice, this restaurant is definitely the place to visit for a night out on the town.
